Fleischer Studios Animated Lois

In 1941, Fleischer Studios came up with an animated Superman series for Paramount Pictures cartoons. The inspiration for the look and attitude of this animated Lois was based on Rosalind Russell in the movie “His Girl Friday” where Ms. Russell plays a sassy, smart, sexy no-nonsense reporter.
Noel Neill

What followed next were the Superman movie serials, which ran from 1948 to 1950. The serials were the first live-action portrayal of the Superman myth. While Kirk Alyn tackled the role of our favorite man of steel, Noel Neill was perfectly cast as his Lois.
She will later reprise Lois Lane again alongside George Reeve’s Superman/Clark Kent in the 1950s TV series Adventures of Superman, replacing Phyllis Coates.
Noel also had a cameo appearance in the Donner Superman movie with Kirk Alyn playing parents to a young Lois Lane.

PHYLLIS COATES

Phyllis Coates was next in line to play Superman’s strong willed girlfriend. Out of all the Loises, Coate’s version was the only one who didn’t go gaga over the man of steel so easily. Her Lois defined the meaning of hard-edged and no-nonsense. In 1994, with the success of Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Coates got a chance to return to Lois Lane’s world, this time playing Lois’s (Teri Hatcher) mother in the episode House of Luthor.

MARGOT KIDDER

What followed next was a major box office Superman movie by Donner in 1978. This time Margot Kidder takes in the role of Lois Lane. Kidder’s Lois was the assertive, tabloid type who wouldn’t mind hanging onto an elevator of the Eiffel Tower taken hostage by terrorists. Kidder played Lois in all 4 Superman movies. Two things mostly remembered by the audience between her relationship with Clark/Superman in the movies…
- Clark had to give up being super to be with Lois.
- Clark erased all of Lois’s memory of him as Superman with just one kiss.
Kidder recently returned to the Superman myth again, this time playing Dr. Brigette Crosby in the WB’s hit series Smallville- a show about a teenage Clark Kent. Her character Dr. Crosby was romantically linked to Dr. Swann, Chris Reeve’s character role in the show.

TERI HATCHER

By the 1990’s, DC comics had obviously established their new revamped life since 1986. Comics Lois is no longer the same “desperate for marriage” Lois from the Silver age. Her relationship with Clark/Superman had been revamped as well. It was time for the world to see a new take on the Superman myth, but this time with a little more emphasis on “sexual tension”. What better way to show this new Post-Crisis Superman myth than with a sexy new revamped version of Lois Lane, perfectly played by the sexy Teri Hatcher. Teri played Lois to Dean Cain’s Clark/Superman in the hit ABC series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, which ran from 1993-1997. The series emphasized on the romance between Lois and Clark and in the process, captured the hearts of many FoLCs (Fans of Lois and Clark). This Lois and Clark eventually tied the knot by the show’s final season. Thanks to the show’s sexy, steamy promo ads, Teri’s “Naked under the S red cape” image was the most downloaded in the Internet.

Voiced By: Dana Delaney First Appearance: "Last Son of Krypton" Position: Newspaper Writer, Friend of Clark Kent |
Bio: Lois Lane is the Daily Planet's star reporter. She's a savvy, stubborn, sly newswoman who doesn't suffer fools gladly. She's also a knockout, but you'd do well to resist telling her that. Lois wants to be appreciated solely for her brains and hard work. As a reporter she's a complete pro, never biasing her stories or slinging mud. Though she takes big (some might even say outrageous) risks while getting a story, they're always calculated.
She does not blunder stupidly into dangerous situations, she's well aware of the hazards before she goes in. Owing to his super powers, Clark will often spot danger that no one else can see and caution her to watch herself. She takes his warnings as his attempt to sabotage her and get the story for himself. She has a like/hate relationship with Clark, always referring to him as "Kent", unless she wants something out of him and only then does she call him "Clark". Deep inside she does have a bit of affection for him, but their rivalry has her keeping him at arm's length, And even if they weren't rivals, she'd still find him a stiff, by-the-books kinda guy.
Lois has sources all over Metropolis, from high society industrialists to the lovable Hobb's Bay fisherman Bibbo. Opinionated and quick with a quip among the mostly male members of the Planet reporting staff, Lois can talk rings around most men, her boss Perry White included. There's only one man who leaves her at a loss for words: Superman and she could kick herself for it. A million available men in Metropolis and she falls for an alien.
But then, Lois has always had an attraction for danger. She always takes the toughest assignment and would gladly infiltrate an arch-villain's lair if it meant getting a scoop. Her affinity for danger extends into her personal life as well. Lois has always liked edgy, mysterious men who played by their own rules. She even dated Lex Luthor for a while. But as soon as she learned Lex wanted her to write some pro-Lex Corp pieces for the Planet, she dropped him faster than Superman would drop a hunk of Kryptonite.
Being a reporter, Lois can't but help be a little suspicious of Superman. Is he for real? Where did he come from? Is he really as good as he seems? What does he really want here on Earth? There are a thousand questions she wants to ask him and if she ever got that interview, her Pulitzer prize would be assured. Although Lois will initially take a skeptical, even cynical attitude toward Superman, the more she'll see him risking his life to help others the more she'll be convinced that he is "for real". She can't help but feel attracted to him.
She's always believed that no one ever gives anything away for free, but Superman's selflessness is gradually changing her mind.
Bio (Cartoon Network): Lois Lane is the Daily Planet's top reporter. She and Clark are always trying to scoop each other for the best stories. The very stubborn and crafty Lois regards Clark as a somewhat rigid goody-two-shoes. Yet she must admit that Clark is a darn good journalist. For this reason, she also treats him with the respect that any worthy rival is due. Lois employs equal combinations of daring and cunning to get her stories, stopping at almost nothing to get exactly what she wants. She is tough and opinionated and generally regarded as one of the best in the biz. Lois is especially attracted to Superman. The mysterious alien outsider gets this reporter's blood racing. What's his story? What does he want? And who is the man behind the cape? Lois is determined to find out. Of course, there may be a more, shall we say, primal source of Lois' fixation with Superman. |

ERICA DURANCE

As the 21st Century closed in and Y2K was an event that fortunately didn’t happen, it was time yet again for another spin on the Superman merry-go-round and with a flick of Al Gough and Miles Millar’s magical powers of persuasion wand…*VIOLA*…we get Smallville, a show about a teenaged Clark Kent growing up angsty to be the Superman that we know and love. The only problem is that at this point in Clark’s life, there is no Lois Lane. At this point of Clark’s life, his mooning is dedicated to the girl that he’s desired since he was 5 years old…a girl who goes by the name of Lana Lang.
This obviously meant to all of us Lois fans that there would be no new version of Lois for the new generation to be paired up with the hunky new Clark Kent played by Tom Welling. And just when we thought that the world was gonna go “Lois who?” Gough and Millar waves their wand again and we get…a 19-year-old Lois Lane visiting Smallville to investigate her cousin Chloe’s death.
Erica Durance, the newest actress to fill in Lois’s high-heeled shoes, comes into angsty Clark’s world and turns it upside-down! Now he is no longer moody and woe-is me Clark, but confident, cheerful, laughing Clark! Of course this show being a new twist on canon characters, the new Lois Lane is unlike any previous Loises. This is Lois who will grow up to become the sexy, sophisticated, smart, sassy Daily Planet reporter that we are all familiar with. This new Lois is like a carbon copy of John Byrne’s comic Lois revamp. She’s an army brat like in the comics. Her dad is a general named Sam Lane like in the comics. She can kick butt just like the comics Lois and so much more similarities. The only difference is that this Lois meets Clark in Smallville instead of the Daily Planet and lost her mom at 6 years old. This new Lois will appear in 13 episodes spread out for the show’s 4th season. After appearing in 4 episodes, this character is creeping up to be an audience favorite.
* As an FYI: Al Gough and Miles Millar originally planned a college aged Lois Lane TV series, but instead were given the green light for a teen Clark Kent series.
Update:
Erica Durance will again play Lois Lane in Smallville season 5 for 13 more episodes! Aside from that, she will also appear in the series opening credits.

QUICK BIOGRAPHY
Source: http://www.KateBosworthWeb.com
Born January 2, 1983, in Los Angeles, California, Catherine Ann Bosworth spent most of her childhood traveling throughout the United States, including San Francisco, Connecticut and Massachusetts. An award-winning equestrian, her big break came about in 1998 during a casting call for Robert Redford's The Horse Whisperer.
Kate figured that attending an audition would be a great experience, and the fact that the film focused on horses gave her that extra push to go ahead and attend the casting call. With little more than a role in a community theater production of Annie to her credit, Kate was a natural and charmed her way into the supporting role of Judith, the female lead's best friend, but not before leaving the producers with her impromptu headshot -- a picture of Kate from a Christmas family portrait. With the doors of Hollywood open to her at such an early age, Kate was met with the age-old dilemma of school versus career. A member of the National Honor Society, she decided to continue her high-school education, as well as her involvement with community sports. After an 18-month hiatus, she was drawn to Hollywood again in 2000, with back-to-back roles in The Newcomers and Remember The Titans, with Denzel Washington.
After landing the role of Bella on the short-lived WB series Young Americans, Bosworth was also a rarity on television, as an actual teen actresss portraying a teen. Two years later, it was director John Stockwell's turn to reintroduce us to America's latest sweet heart with the surfing film, Blue Crush. Easily defined as a blend of Charlie's Angels and Beach Blanket Bingo, 2002's Blue Crush featured Bosworth as a chambermaid/aspiring professional surfer. With the female cast sharing a beach house in Oahu for two months, they were forced to undergo a rigorous training regimen, which included seven hours of running, swimming, weight training, and surfing. According to Bosworth, it wasn't easy; "Standing on a surfboard is like trying to stand on soap. You're going to fall." But Kate met the challenge head-on, and had the cuts and scars to prove it. She even ended up going to the hospital for a CAT scan after a nasty spill left her unconscious. The film's surprise strong opening meant that Kate Bosworth would have a whole new fan base, especially among the MTV crowd. As the poster girl for this "new wave" of girl power, Bosworth was happy to portray a character she could relate to, a young woman who was strong-willed, determined, independent and sexy.
In 2002, she also appeared in Roger Avary's The Rules of Attraction. The film explored the darker side of college life, with Kate portraying a strung-out party girl. Leaving her wholesome prep-school image behind, she attracted the attention of director James Cox, who was in the midst of casting his latest film, Wonderland.
Due for a July 2003 release, the film follows the life of legendary adult film star John Holmes and stars Val Kilmer in the lead role. Dyeing her hair brown for the part, Bosworth portrays Dawn Schiller, the real-life teenage lover of the X-rated king.
This past year has been good to her. She appeared in the romantic comedy Win a Date with Tad Hamilton! and she landed the role of Sandra Dee in Kevin Spacey's upcoming biography of Bobby Darin, Beyond the Sea. Also be on the lookout for Bosworth's next appearances as Chali, a Hare Krishna cult member, in Bee Season; and as Lois Lane in the upcoming Superman Returns.

That was the scariest." • In The Rules of Attraction, Kate says about her co-star James Van Der Beek, "He was so sweet.
